1st, dinner at Saddlepeak Lodge Saturday night. (Elk steak with truffle sauce, anyone?) ![]() |
2nd, we rang in the New Year with champagne & Dick Clark on TV at Venice Beach. (Swell party, Bruce! Mwuuhhh!) ![]() |
3rd, we got up at 4AM to see the 112th annual Tournament of Roses Parade. Initially, we had the bleachers to ourselves... ![]() |
...but it didn't take long for 999,998 more people to arrive! (We're exactly center, surrounded by a busload of tourists from Idaho.) ![]() |
Here we are! ![]() |
...Lots of marching bands... ![]() |
And the floats were fabulous. (Yes, VJ's squinting. It rose from a chilly morning to a balmy 77 degrees.) ![]() |
Following the parade, we went to view the floats up close. (Parrots for our NY bird-lover friend!) ![]() |
All the floats are covered in organic materials. (See the potato cobblestones? The stoneware is crushed rice -- even the horse is covered in weeds.) ![]() |
A dolphin rendered in leaves and flowers. (Eat your heart out, Patty!) ![]() |
A float dedicated to Australia. (~Wave~ to our Australian friends.) ![]() |
Vicky Jo with the giant Bob Hope float. (Yup, Bob's organic too!) ![]() |
Robin chose this impressive eagle as his favorite float. ![]() |
Vicky Jo with a sweet flower bear. ![]() |
Robin's favorite lunchtime restaurant participated in the parade. (Even the logo is made of flowers.) ![]() |
These "flowers" are carved from vegetables -- a carrot and two turnips! ![]() |
Robin with a magnificent flower pheasant. ![]() |
![]() This cute trolley float sways from side to side. (Is this a good time to mention we're off to San Francisco in a week?) ![]() |
